About the Role
The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding researcher and teacher to a Senior Lectureship in Accounting. This post offers an opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of accounting research and teaching in a rapidly growing and distinctive management school.
The role of Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Financial Management includes both teaching and research objectives: (i) to make important research contributions to the field; (ii) to advance the research subject through publications; (iii) to deliver quality teaching including making innovations in key aspects of teaching and learning; (iv) to contribute to the administration of the Department/School; (v) to maximise opportunities for public engagement in the subject; (vi) to foster the development of junior colleagues.
Candidates will be established academics with a strong publication record and will have demonstrated potential to publish at the world-leading level. They should also demonstrate willingness to undertake (and preferably have experience of) major administrative roles in the Department or School. Applicants will be expected to show how their research interests complement those within the Department and how they can contribute to the development of accounting programmes within the accounting teaching group. Whilst we welcome applications from all areas of the discipline, we are particularly interested in candidates who are engaged in critical scholarship and/or have expertise in Financial Reporting and can teach the subject at MSc level. The School is strongly committed to the development of all its staff and we will ensure that the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop their teaching, research and administrative skills.
The School of Business and Management
The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 90 academic staff. We have over 1,600 undergraduate business studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have approximately 800 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 80 doctoral students.
SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our scholarship, and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.
The Department of Accounting and Financial Management is research-led, and our academics publish in journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society; Critical Perspectives in Accounting; Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal; Accounting Forum; Human Resource Management Journal; Journal of Corporate Finance; British Journal of Management; Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money; European Journal of Finance and Journal of Applied Finance. We focus on excellence in teaching and the Department is rapidly expanding as student numbers rise. The Department is home to two undergraduate and three postgraduate programmes: BSc Accounting and Finance; BSc Accounting and Management; MSc Accounting and Finance; MSc Accounting and Management and International Financial Management. A further undergraduate accountancy programme, in partnership with PwC, will launch in 2022.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1st January 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £55,840 - £62,415 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
