About the Role

We are delighted to offer a secondment opportunity within the SEMS Technical Team to cover the role of Technical Facilities Manager. The post is available for immediate start (to be agreed with line manager) to end of December 2021. The post is offered as a full-time position for the full duration of the secondment period and will be compensated through an acting up allowance at Technical Grade 6.

About You

The post holder will have responsibility for the technical support within the School for the purposes of teaching and research. They will lead a multidisciplinary team of 19 Technical staff (4 direct line management; 14 indirect), who are based in three different buildings.  The play an important role in the strategic planning of the workshop, laboratory, technical staff and space provision for the School.  In addition, they are the key point of contact in the School for Estates & Facilities and play a key part in all SEMS refurbishment projects.  As well as budget responsibilities they also provide support and guidance to the Health and Safety Co-ordinators.  The Technical Facilities Manager position is an integral part of the SEMS Management structure and will report to the Head of School and School Manager.

Technical staff with good line management, operational and administrative experience within a laboratory environment are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their line manager.  Candidates with technical experience outside an engineering laboratory background are encouraged to apply.  A structure will be in place to support and guide the secondee during the secondment period.
