About the Role
A Team Leader is required to join the sample reception team, to assist in work on antenatal screening for Down's syndrome. The main duties will include organising the day-to-day running of the sample reception team, ensuring the team’s skills are up-to-date, keeping the lab well-stocked, and assisting with sample processing, analyses & data collection.
The successful candidate will have experience in a laboratory setting handling clinical materials, as well as working as part of a close team. The ability to work accurately and to tight deadlines is essential.

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health harnesses expertise across a wide range of population based research and education activities. The Centre for Public Health and Policy conducts research and teaching in all areas of chronic disease epidemiology, medical screening and public health. Research themes within the Centre include prevention of cardiovascular disease; prevention of cancers of various sites; antenatal screening; medical screening; smoking cessation; and weight management
The antenatal screening unit is one of the largest antenatal screening laboratories in the UK. Antenatal screening can identify pregnancies at high risk of abnormalities including Down syndrome; spina bifida, anencephaly and other open neural tube defects. The team carries out over 50,000 tests per year, for both NHS services and individuals..

The full-time, permanent post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. The starting salary will be Grade 2, £28,208 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
