Overview:

This is an exciting full time, permanent role which will take a lead in the support and development of societies at the Students’ Union. The Societies Development Coordinator will support societies to running safe and successful events and activities whilst ensuring they are safe and effective. The post holder will also line manage the Student Engagement Administrator and support the wider Student Engagement Department as and when required.

The successful candidate will have a passion for improving the student experience and have a positive attitude and commitment to working with students. The successful candidate will have the ability to use their own initiative and have experience of working with students.

The Students’ Union represents and supports over 23,000 students who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London. The Student Engagement Team support over 250 societies making it the largest area of student-led activity within Students’ Union. In addition to societies, the Student Engagement Team is responsible for Raise and Give (RAG), Community Volunteering, Student Media, Employability and Sustainability.

The Societies Development Coordinator will lead on all aspects of running societies, which includes, administrative support, organising events, monitoring budgets and expenditure, training and development, reward and recognition, grant funding allocation, and governance. The Societies Development Coordinator will also support the department with process review and improvements and will support the two elected Societies Officers and the Societies Board. 

Applicants should have a good understanding of the needs of students, have excellent organisational skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people.  You will also need to be empathetic to the needs of the students and have the knowledge and experience of working in an education or not-for-profit environment. Applicants are expected to have experience in administration, delivering training or presenting to large groups, applying and adapting processes.

The post is a full time, permanent position. Starting salary will be £27,742 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance and raises 1 point annually as set out in the Queen Mary Pay and Grading Structure.
