About the Role


Do you have experience in the design and delivery of educational development for academic staff? Are you looking for a new and exciting role where you will help us to achieve our ambition to deliver an outstanding, inclusive, world-class education and student experience?


We're looking for a skilled communicator with the ability to engage a range of audiences to join the Queen Mary Academy.


You’ll play a key role in the delivery of the Queen Mary Academy’s university-wide academic development portfolio. Reporting to the Taught Programmes Manager, you’ll contribute to a wide range of activities, including delivery of our Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CILT) and Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) and the design and delivery of exciting and engaging blended courses and workshops.


You will also contribute to a range of key strategic initiatives, including project work on assessment and feedback, graduate attributes and the design and delivery of an inclusive curriculum. These projects are fundamental to the delivery the University’s 2030 Strategy for Educational Excellence and Student Success.


Your role will evolve as the Academy’s work develops, so to succeed you will need to demonstrate a flexible and agile approach.

About You

You will have experience in the design, delivery and co-ordination of an educational development portfolio for academic staff, with experience of teaching in higher education, including small and large group teaching, face to face and online.


You’ll also have experience of delivering academic development activity which meets institutional need, with the ability to translate institutional need into a schedule of activity.


You will be knowledgeable about effective pedagogy in higher education, with a significant understanding of the UK higher education landscape.


We’re looking for a strong communicator, who can build strong relationships with colleagues and engage a range of audiences across a range of platforms, conveying key messages in an engaging and clear manner.


About the Academy

The Queen Mary Academy is a flagship department at Queen Mary University of London. It provides academic practice development for academic staff, teaching staff, research staff, and research students. Guided by the University’s 2030 Strategy and associated enabling plans, the Academy delivers development programmes that enables the delivery of an inclusive educational environment where students and staff flourish and reach their true potential. The Academy will offer development opportunities to academic, teaching staff, research staff and research students at all stages of their career, from teaching assistants through to the professoriate.


Located within the Office of the Principal, the Queen Mary Academy reports to the Vice-Principal (Education) and has a dotted-line report to the Vice-Principal (Research) to ensure strategic alignment in our approach. The Academy also works closely with colleagues from academic, doctoral college, research services, academy registry and council secretariat and professional development colleagues to deliver a comprehensive academic practice development portfolio.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time, permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £38,084 - £44,807 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
