Overview:

This is a new and exciting 2 year fixed term role which will support, coordinate, promote and raise the profile of the Union and University’s work on sustainability.  

The successful candidate will have knowledge of sustainability issues, have passion for engaging students in sustainability, and have enthusiasm for improving the student experience. The successful candidate will have the ability to use their own initiative and will have a positive attitude and a commitment to working with students.

This role will sit within the Students’ Union, which represents and supports over 18,000 students who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London. The Sustainability Coordinator lead on all aspects developing student engagement in sustainability at QMUL, will support with improving the Union’s Green Impact, and will also assist with aspects of running the wider Student Engagement department which is responsible for RAG, Societies, community volunteering, and the Union’s employability initiatives.

The post holder will work with Union and University staff, students, and external bodies to plan, deliver and evaluate sustainability initiatives, campaigns, and events within a set budget, as well as support relevant elected student officers and committees with developing and achieving their own objectives. The post holder will also lead on research and will collect and analyze data to monitor and report on the green impact of QMUL’s activities and facilities. They will develop and deliver training, briefing sessions and create opportunities for best practice sharing for staff and students to further the work of sustainability.

Applicants should have a good understanding of the needs of students and the importance of sustainability within a University environment. They will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize a varied workload, and to work with a wide range of people. Applicants are expected to have experience in administration, delivering training or presenting to large groups, events planning and coordination, and experience of working with student representatives or volunteers.

The post is a full time, 2 years position. Starting salary will be £26,717 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance and raises 1 point annually as set out in the QM Pay and Grading Structure. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
