Applications are invited for two, part-time, 18 months Research Assistant positions on developing Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and connectivity for precision livestock agriculture, with a particular focus on low power wide area networks (LPWAN). The research work is part of a project funded by Innovate UK in collaboration with 4 other academic and industry partners.

The responsibilities of the roles are to design and conduct studies with IoT sensors and system integration, and to work as part of a team creating new LPWAN designs and prototypes. The studies will explore various chipsets such as Sigfox, LoRa, Weightless-P, WiFi, Bluetooth and its communication in order to produce IoT designs and prototypes for the precision livestock agriculture.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate an expertise in embedded system, software-defined radio and signal processing in general. The successful candidates should have substantial experience in LPWAN provisioning and programming skills, and have excellent practical skills in software development for IoT devics, LoRa, etc. Significant knowledge of IoT sensors and system integration is highly desirable.

These are part time (17.5 hours per week 50% position), fixed term posts available immediately for 18 months or until 30 April 2019 with the possibility of an extension if further funding is granted. The starting salary will be in the range of £16,478 - £18,338 per annum pro rata inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include the pro rata equivalent of 30 days’ annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
