The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Queen Mary, University of London is seeking to appoint a Workshop Technician to provide technical services in the Research Mechanical Workshop which is run jointly with the School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS).
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day operation of the EECS activity in the workshop and will lead and provide manufacturing capability for research based items whose specifications range from a simple sketch to full engineering drawings or CAD/CAM files. They will also ensure that adequate safety information is provided and that all personnel adhere to the Safety Rules of the School.
Applicants should have significant experience in working in a prototyping workshop enabling the post-holder to advise academic staff and researchers on technical issues regarding concept, design, drawing, manufacture, assembly and installation of mechanical devices and systems, and be capable of working to high precision and close tolerances. The successful candidate will have experience with Tig and Mig welding techniques, particularly with Aluminium. Experience of the use of 3D printing for component manufacture and the ability to perform online/offline programming (at machine tool level control) would be an advantage.
The post is full time and permanent and is available for an immediate start. The starting salary will be in the range of £36,677 - £43,152 per annum inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a defined benefit pension scheme.
