About the Role
As part of the AHRC funded BFTT (Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology) project, applicants are invited for 2 part-time (totaling 1 full time equivalent) Postdoctoral Research Assistants to work under the supervision of Prof. James Busfield and Dr Emiliano Bilotti for up to 15 months. The post-holders will be responsible for the main research activities of the BFTT project. The overall aim is to develop more sustainable, circular and intelligent wearables for the fashion and textile industry.
BFTT is one of nine game-changing Creative R&D Partnerships as part of the Government’s investment in the UK’s creative industries, awarded to The University of the Arts London and partners, including QMUL. BFTT is focused on delivering innovation and growth throughout the entire fashion and textile supply chain, from manufacturing to retail. Started in 2018, the Arts & Humanities Research Council’s Creative Industries Clusters Programme has been strengthening the creative industries’ position as vital to UK economic growth and resilience, and provide direct links into shaping Government policy.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Material Science and Engineering or equivalent subjects. The candidate will also have experience in appropriate research techniques including: polymer and/or rubber processing; electrical/thermal/mechanical characterization and/or force/strain sensing.
About the School
This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with 70-80 academics and a similar number of postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. These are supported by an administrative and technical staff team of 45. The staff and student body are international in make-up.

The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London and are expected to start in October 2021. These two posts are part time (totaling 1 full time equivalent when combined), fixed term appointment for 15 months. The salary for both posts will be in the range of £34,733 - £40,797 per annum pro rata, inclusive of London Allowance.
