About the role
We seek a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in cellular and molecular biology to contribute to the delivery of high-quality research under the supervision of the Head of Centre, Professor Costantino Pitzalis.
The main duty of the post is to carry out cellular and molecular biology techniques and immunological assays aimed at investigating the efficacy of human peptidyl arginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) blocking monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). The post-holder will establish a dose / response relationship between the tested mAbs and PAD4 activity under different experimental conditions. In addition, the post-holder will assess the PAD4-blocking activity of the mAbs on different samples obtained from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients including synovial fluids, plasma, and cell culture supernatants and lysates. The post-holder will also assess the effect of the PAD4-blocking mAbs on histone citrullination in cell lysates obtained from leukocyte / stromal cell co-cultures. The post holder will design, optimize, perform, and analyse data from different cellular, immunological, and molecular biology techniques including ELISA, FACS, western blotting, magnetic cell separation, in vitro cell culture and stimulation; and will study the statistical correlation between PAD4 activity and RA parameters in the investigated patients.
