The School of Business and Management and Department of Law seek to recruit an outstanding researcher and teacher to a lectureship in business law. Experienced candidates with a strong publications record are encouraged to apply.  All applicants should have the ability to teach and supervise effectively across our main undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  This post would facilitate cross-disciplinary research at the interface between law and business and management, enhancing QMUL’s position as a leading research university. The post holder is expected to lead in the delivery of the new LLB in Law with Business.

School of Business and Management (SBM)

The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 85 academic staff, with more appointments in process. We have over 1100 undergraduate Business Studies students plus approximately 600 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have around 600 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 60 doctoral students.

We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science led approach to our scholarship. We are a non-departmentalised school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

SBM recently re-committed to our core purpose, that is, to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We organise our activities thematically, cross-cutting traditional divisions between disciplinary departments.


Department of Law

The Department of Law is one of the leading global law schools. It is ranked number 3 in the UK and 1st in London in the 2018 Guardian University rankings, and has featured consistently in the top 50 global law schools in the QS rankings, ranked 37 in the world in 2017.





Lecturer in Business Law

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to research and publish at an internationally excellent level or higher (at least 3 in the REF framework) in the broad area of legal issues within business and management. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching on our MSc and undergraduate programmes in areas such as business law, corporate governance, law in society, international legal issues affecting business and/or regulatory studies.

Candidates for the lectureship should have a completed doctorate (or have a doctorate under examination) by December 2017 and be able to demonstrate the capacity for international-level research achievement.

It would be desirable, but not essential, if applicants were able to demonstrate evidence of research activities that align with the interests of existing SBM or Department of Law academic staff. We would also highly value experience of grant and contract research, particularly projects that have demonstrable impacts beyond academia. We envisage that the incoming post-holder will contribute to our efforts to deepen connections between management and law at QMUL.

Starting salary will be in the range £40,865 - £50,881 per annum inclusive of London Allowance and include 30 days annual leave, USS pension scheme membership, and interest-free travel season ticket loan.
