Queen Mary University of London's (QMUL) ambitious Life Sciences Initiative (LSI) aims to form a life sciences presence across its campuses in line with the wider regeneration agenda for East London, attracting partners from Higher Education, the NHS and industry.  The academic focal point will be a new-build Life Sciences Institute in Whitechapel, encompassing research, education and public engagement, bringing together academics from across the College’s three faculties (Medicine & Dentistry, Science & Engineering and Humanities & Social Science) to help address the marked health inequalities in the local population in London’s East End and beyond.

The LSI has recently launched four new interdisciplinary centres to help realise the research aims of the initiative and applications are invited for one full time Business Development and Communications Officer position in the Centre for Computational Biology (Leads: Claude Chelala and Conrad Bessant).

The Centre aims to develop QMUL’s diffuse computational biology activities into a focused cross-faculty endeavour that will raise the profile of computational biology at QMUL, and provide an organisational framework to build infrastructure and research/education capability in LSI.

The initial focus of the Centre will be on growing perception of computational activities, promoting internal and external visibility enabling the computational related activities in the College to be better coordinated to bid for large research grants and Doctoral Training College (DTC).  

The post requires experience in working with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, with a particular emphasis on computational biology. The successful candidate will develop and organize the centre website content, collate information on CCB members, identify funding opportunities, develop teaching portfolio, engage industrial partners, and prepare the CCB official launch/meetings/workshops events.

The post is available for 6 months full time or 1 year on a part time basis in the first instance (full or part time) extending to 1 year subject to funding), with a view to start as soon as possible.

The starting salary will be in the range of £30,445 per annum inclusive of London allowance.

For QMUL secondees, this will be paid as buy-out time to your main department.
