About the Role

The role involves leading the completion of the research project - ‘Racism in acute inpatient mental health wards’; undertaking primary qualitative data collection and secondary analysis of quantitative data; and disseminating the research outputs.

About You

We’re seeking a researcher with knowledge and expertise in research into racism and intersectionality, ideally within mental health services, and experience of qualitative data analysis. Additional experience in quantitative analysis and/or mixed methods would be a bonus. Candidates should have a PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant field or have a profile of published research.

About the Institute

The Centre for Psychiatry is a world leader in cultural, social and environmental aspects of public mental health research, as well as health services research to improve the care of patients. We are one of the three Centres within the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, an internationally recognised centre for research and teaching and a part of Queen Mary’s medical faculty, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Institute identifies the causes and methods of prevention of health conditions that lead to poor quality of life and premature death.

About Queen Mary

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Campus in London. It is a part time (0.8FTE) fixed term appointment for 12 months. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £34,220 - £38,084 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
