About the Role

A Postgraduate Research Assistant is sought to join a dynamic global child health group researching HIV and infectious diseases; malnutrition; and child growth and development. The post-holder will work on basic science studies in the state-of-the-art laboratories at the Blizard Institute, utilising biological specimens from research studies in sub-Saharan Africa to investigate the microbiome and immune function in early life.

About You

Applicants will have a relevant undergraduate degree, a strong background in laboratory science, and hands-on experience in molecular biology and/or immunology. The specific project(s) can be tailored to the interests and experience of the successful candidate, but there should be flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques.

About the Institute

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is the largest of seven Institutes within Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. The Institute comprises approximately 400 staff based in five academic centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute delivers excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full time, fixed term appointment for 5 years, with an expected start date of August 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £31,613 - £33,324 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
