About the Role

Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on a research project as part of the EPSRC project “Surface treatments for next generation quiet aerofoil”. The candidate will be responsible for developing and applying efficient computational algorithms for flow and noise modelling using GPU LES.

The position is supported by a three-year EPSRC funded project between Queen Mary University of London, Southampton University and the University of Manchester.

About You

Applicants must hold a PhD and should have experience working with OpenFOAM and Wall-Modelled LES. You will be part of a larger research team working on the development of a perspective technology for design of next generation quiet airfoils. Knowledge of high-performance computing, programming (Fortran, C/C++), coding on GPU, and theoretical eroacoustic models such as the Amiet trailing edge noise model will be expected.

This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with 70-80 academics and a similar number of postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students.  These are supported by an administrative and technical staff team of 45.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time, fixed term for 3 years, with an expected start date of September 2021. The salary will be Grade 4-5, £34,220 to £42,433 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
