About the Role
The Department of Film within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint a Lecturer who specialises in Documentary Practice. As this is a 0.5 part-time position, we welcome applications from practicing documentary filmmakers who want to combine teaching and research (including documentary practice-as-research) with their own filmmaking. We welcome applications from all areas of documentary filmmaking, and have particular interests in creative and experimental documentary, participatory filmmaking, non-fiction artists’ moving image and gallery practices, filmmaking centered on activism and social justice, environmental and sustainable documentary, and the philosophy, politics, ethics and impact of documentary. The post is 0.5, starting 1 September 2021.
Duties will include teaching one undergraduate and one postgraduate module each year based on your own documentary practice interests. You may be expected to contribute to the following modules: Documentary Theory and Practice (L6) and Documentary Practice Research Project by Practice (L7) and/or similar.
You will hold a PhD in Film or a related subject or have a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience with a strong track record in documentary, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communication skills are also essential. Evidence of high-quality research and publications in renowned journals, and/or of high-quality documentary practice-as-research, is also expected.

The post is part time, 17.5 hours per week, and permanent, starting 1 September 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 5, £42,433 - £44,807 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
