About the Role
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) help businesses improve their competitiveness through partnership with an academic institution.
Queen Mary University of London and Paragraf Ltd. have a KTP project to develop organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products on graphene. This project will combine Paragraf’s unique technology for graphene deposition directly onto semiconductor wafers, with advanced OLED deposition technology and skills QMUL.
The researcher will split their time between QMUL and Paragraf and will have supervisors at both organisations. The role is at the interface between academia and industry and will use the knowledge base at QMUL to develop products on Paragraf’s graphene platform.
The candidate must hold a relevant PhD in physics, materials science or a relevant discipline.
Experience is required in at least one of the following areas:
- OLED fabrication
- Thin film deposition
- Graphene processing
The candidate must be willing to work close to a commercial environment, be adaptable and prepared to work to tight deadlines.
About the School of Physics and Astronomy
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team combining researchers from the School of Physics and Astronomy (SPA) and the School of Engineering and Materials Sciences working on graphene and organic electronics. Much of the research will be conducted in the organic electronics clean-room facility in SPA.

The post is split between QMUL’s Mile End Campus in London and Paragraf Ltd. site in Cambridgeshire. It is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 30 months, with an expected start date of 1st May 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4, spinal point 27-29, of £34,220 - £36,098 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
