About the Role

The School of Business and Management seeks to recruit an excellent researcher and teacher to a lectureship, with an expertise in either Audit or Taxation. Early career researchers, including those near completion of their PhDs, with strong potential for publication are invited to apply. All applicants should have the ability to teach and supervise effectively across our main undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The role of Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Financial Management includes both teaching and research objectives: (i) to make important research contributions to the field; (ii) to advance the research subject through publications; (iii) to deliver quality teaching including making innovations in key aspects of teaching and learning; (iv) to contribute to the administration of the Department/School; (v) to maximise opportunities for public engagement in the subject.

About You

Candidates will be expected to have a doctorate (or have a doctorate under examination) in a relevant field. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to research and publish at an internationally excellent level, with the potential for world-leading work. Applicants will be expected to show how their research interests complement those within the Department and how they can contribute to the development of accounting programmes within the accounting teaching group. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Auditing and/or Taxation. The School is strongly committed to the development of all its staff and we will ensure that the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop their teaching, research and administrative skills.

The School of Business and Management

The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 90 academic staff. We have over 1,600 undergraduate business studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have approximately 800 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 80 doctoral students.

SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our scholarship, and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

The Department of Accounting and Financial Management is research-led, and our academics publish in journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society; Critical Perspectives in Accounting; Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal; Accounting Forum; Human Resource Management Journal; Journal of Corporate Finance; British Journal of Management; Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money; European Journal of Finance and Journal of Applied Finance. We focus on excellence in teaching and the Department is rapidly expanding as student numbers rise. The Department is home to two undergraduate and three postgraduate programmes: BA Accounting and Finance; BSc Accounting and Management; MSc Accounting and Finance; MSc Accounting and Management and MSc International Financial Management.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1st September 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 5/6, in the range of £42,433 - £52,833 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
