About the Role
Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on an EPSRC funded project developing wearable ultrasound sensors. This post will be hosted in the research group of Dr Lei Su in the School of Engineering of Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London. The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary team including researchers from Imperial College London, clinicians from Royal London Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital as well as the industrial partners. This post is available initially for 14 months funded by the Development Phase of EPSRC Transformative Healthcare Technology 2.0 for 2050, a high risk and high return initiative, may be further extended for an additional 3 years (subject to the outcome of the second-phase funding application).
Candidates with a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Materials, Chemistry or Physics are encouraged to apply. Previous experience with any of the following: ultrasound imaging, ultrasound measurements, ultrasound instrumentation, flexible and soft electronics fabrication, wearable devices, cleanroom and microfabrication, ultrasound transducers, biocompatible medical devices, will be an advantage.
About the School
This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with approximately 70 academic staff and 45 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. Circa 40 administrative and technical staff support the staff and students. The staff and student body are international in make-up. The School is partway through a refurbishment project that is upgrading research and teaching space.

The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 14 months and is available with an expected start 1st Nov 2021, dependent on current movement and laboratory access restrictions in light of the COVID-19 crisis. The salary will be £34,733 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
