Overview:

Queen Mary, University of London is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions. With around 20,260 students, 4,000 staff and an annual turnover of £300m, we are one of the biggest University of London colleges. We teach and research across a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering. Based in a creative and culturally diverse area of east London, we are the only London University able to offer a completely integrated residential campus, with a 2,000-bed award-winning student village at our Mile End home.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Sustainability Energy Surveyor to join our small but dynamic Sustainability team. Working within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, the team is responsible for managing the university’s environmental impacts, most notably energy consumption and carbon emissions.

What you will do:

You will be responsible for developing a programme of energy management projects and other initiatives to support the university’s efforts to achieve its stretching carbon reduction targets. This includes performing energy audits and conducting energy analyses to identify opportunities to increase building efficiency and minimise the environmental impacts of our activities. Given the importance of the role and the scope to create positive financial and behavioural impacts you can expect to work closely with senior management at all levels. You can also expect plenty of opportunities to support delivery of the university’s broader sustainability agenda.

What you will need:

We are looking for someone who is able to work successfully in a complex multi-site organisation interacting with internal and external stakeholders, consultants and contractors. You will need to have an in-depth knowledge of building services monitoring and targeting software and demonstrable experience of delivering energy and carbon savings across a diverse and complex portfolio of buildings. Professionally qualified with a degree in an environmental, energy and/or engineering discipline (or with equivalent relevant experience) you will have supplemented this with further qualifications in environmental and/or energy auditing (or equivalent relevant experience) and demonstrate a good working knowledge of safe systems of work, practices and procedures.

The post is a fixed term contract for 12 months and full time (35 hours per week). The salary range for this post is £36,677 – £43,152 per annum plus a benefits package which includes 30 days annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme and also an interest-free season ticket loan after a qualifying period.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Mark Vinter, Assistant Director (Infrastructure and Maintenance) at sustainability@qmul.ac.uk
